Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady is located in Kerala. This national park and wildlife sanctuary is a protected area for elephants and tigers. It is located in the Pandalam Hills of the Western Ghats. The total protected area of this wildlife sanctuary covers an area of about 900 sq km. A vast variety of plants and animals can be found in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Visiting Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary proves to be a great retreat for the wildlife enthusiasts. Tourists can enjoy the jungle safari, which is managed by the local people. It is a great means to explore the wildlife of this place. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary is home to about 1000 elephants and about 40 tigers.

Also, one can find wild boar, langur, sambar and various other animals in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. The Periyar river, which is the longest river in Kerala, covering a distance of about 250 kilometers, originates in Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. Periyar National Park is surrounded with Tea, pepper, cardamom and coffee plantions.

Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary timings are 6 am to 6 pm. Safaris in Periyar Tiger Reserve area can be booked online. KTDC manages boating at Periyar Lake for visitors to enjoy the wildlife from a safe distance. Boating charges at Periyar Lake are about INR 250 per person for up to 2 hours. In fact, it's the only place in India where boating can also be used for Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary safari.

The travel agent hides few things while sharing itinerary. Also provided a very old houseboat which was very dirty. The badsheet had a dirty smell (changed in night). Few hairs were found in the rice. Overall a very very good 3 days were spoiled on 4th day at the houseboat. A very low quality cake w

as provided as honeymoon inclusion. No fruit basket was there as mentioned in the itinerary. Several places were not covered, driver said these were optional, but didn't mentioned in itinerary. Stay at Munnar and thekkedy was awesome.
